Trained at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik, with further studies under Tibor Kozma at Indiana University, and later as an Aspen Conducting Fellow, Dr. Jarrett has had considerable experience conducting choral, orchestral and opera repertoire at both university and professional levels.  As a trained singer, he is  particularly attracted to opera, having conducted more than twenty productions, including such works as Verdi’s FALSTAFF,  Britten’s TURN OF THE SCREW, and Ravel’s L’HEURE ESPAGNOLE.  20th Century works have included Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms,” “Petrouchka”and “Le Sacre du Printemps,” Walton’s “Belshazzar’s Feast,”  Britten’s “War Requiem" and "Sinfonia da Requiem,” and the Boston premiere of Gorecki’s Third Symphony.  During his tenure as Assistant Conductor of the Richmond, VA Symphony, Jarrett gave concerts with such artists as Leonard Pennario, Doc Severinson and Pearl Bailey.  He has also served as musical director for two off-Broadway musical theater productions.  More recently, he made several recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra.  In April, 2010, he conducted Debussy's "L'Enfant Prodigue" and Ravel's "L'Enfant et les Sortilèges," and in 2011, Humperdink's "Hansel and Gretel" at the University of North Carolina - Greensboro.

The music you are hearing is the third, fourth and fifth movement of Mark Wilson's five-movement symphonic work "The Phoenix Rising."   This was the 2008 winner in the annual international composition competition sponsored by Notion Music, Inc.  This 18-minute LSO recording was made in a single session.
